Broader Joins Michaels Craft Chain

IRVING, Texas — Shelley Broader, the longtime Delhaize executive who recently announced plans to leave as chief executive officer of Sweetbay Supermarkets, is joining Michaels Stores here as president and chief operating officer effective June 23, the craft retailer said Friday. Broader, who joined Delhaize sister chain Hannaford Bros. in 1991, oversaw the conversion of Kash n’ Karry to the Sweetbay format during the last four years. At Michaels she reports to Safeway veteran Brian Cornell, who joined Michaels as CEO last year. Michaels operates 940 Michaels stores in the U.S. and Canada and 164 Aaron Brothers stores.
