BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Dorothy Haggen, co-founder of supermarket chain Haggen Inc., died here Sunday, the company said yesterday. She was 99. She and her husband, the late Ben Haggen, and her late brother, Doug Clark, launched the Economy Food Store here in 1933 with a combined investment of $1,100. They soon moved the store to a larger location and changed its name to White House Market before moving to yet another location in 1957 and adopting the name Haggen’s Thriftway. Now operating 33 locations, Haggen Inc. is the largest independent supermarket chain in Washington. Dorothy Haggen is survived by three children and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for this Friday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church here.
