CEO of Earth Fare Resigns

FLETCHER, N.C. — Michael Cianciarulo resigned last week as president and chief executive officer of Earth Fare, the natural and organics retailer based here, the company said. He will continue to serve on the board of directors. No specific reason for his departure was cited, and the company could not be reached for further comment. Jack Murphy, a director at Earth Fare, was named to succeed Cianciarulo as president and CEO. In 1992 Murphy co-founded the Fresh Fields natural and organic chain, which was acquired by Whole Foods Markets in 1996. Earth Fare operates 13 stores in three states, generating more than $100 million annually. It has four new stores on tap for 2008, Cianciarulo recently told SN.
