FreshDirect Cooperating With Federal Immigration Probe

NEW YORK — FreshDirect is cooperating with federal officials investigating worker documentation at its warehouse here, a FreshDirect official said Wednesday. “Additional comment would be inappropriate until the review is completed,” Jim Moore, senior vice president for business affairs at FreshDirect, said in a statement acknowledging the Internet retailer is being investigated by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), an investigative branch of the Department of Homeland Security. The New York Daily News reported Wednesday that as many as 85 workers could be dismissed as a result of the investigation, which comes while warehouse workers at FreshDirect prepare to vote whether to seek union representation.
