MONTVALE, N.J. — All 139 Pathmark stores will celebrate the chain’s 40th anniversary this Saturday with special giveaways and discounts, according to A&P here. Pathmark traces its history to 1966 when Supermarkets General broke away from the Wakefern Food cooperative. It introduced the Pathmark banner in 1968. The store is the first of several planned conversions of area SuperFresh stores, which officials said could improve under Pathmark’s value-focused format.
