LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix Super Markets here hopes to begin reopening late next month some of the Albertsons stores it acquired, though no specific schedule has been set yet, the company said Friday. The deal for the acquisition of the 49 stores from Albertsons LLC was completed last week, and all of the stores remain closed for some minor remodeling before they begin to reopen under their new banners, Maria Brous, Publix's spokeswoman, told SN. Some stores will reopen this year, the majority in 2009 and a handful may carry over into 2010, she said. Three of the stores — in Tallahassee, Orlando and Winter Park — will ultimately reopen under the Publix GreenWise banner, while the other 46 are slated to carry the Publix banner, she said. Once the stores reopen, most major remodeling activity will take place with the stores remaining in operation, Brous added.
