Senate Introduces Credit Card Bill

WASHINGTON — Sen. Richard J. Durbin, D-Ill., yesterday introduced the Credit Card Fair Fee Act of 2008, a companion bill to legislation that was introduced in the House in March that calls for credit card companies and merchants to negotiate transaction fees. Retail groups, including the Food Marketing Institute, National Grocers Association and National Retail Federation, have long supported government action in the wake of escalating fees to process credit cards.
