SN, Friends Dinner Present Awards

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Supermarket News presented three industry awards here at the ninth annual Friends of the Industry Dinner during the FMI Midwinter Executive Conference. Steve Smith, chief executive officer of K-VA-T, accepted the Community Service Award for his company, and Ron Hodge, president and CEO of Hannaford Bros., accepted the Champion of Diversity Award for Delhaize Group. Stephen Vowles, senior vice president of marketing for Ahold’s Stop & Shop and Giant-Landover chains, was given the Marketer of the Year Award. The Friends Dinner sponsors presented Founders Awards to Jack Brown, Stater Bros. Markets; William Crenshaw, Publix Super Markets; Rick Jurgens, Hy-Vee; and Peter Lynch, Winn-Dixie.
