Tops to Convert Four Martin’s Stores

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. — Tops Markets yesterday said it would convert its four existing Martin’s Super Food Stores in western New York back to the Tops Markets banner by early March. The stores, located in Batavia, Derby, Dunkirk and Perinton, were introduced with the Martin’s banner when Tops was operated under the auspices of Ahold’s Giant of Carlisle, Pa., division. Tops was acquired last year by Morgan Stanley Private Equity. “It has been a part of our plan since the purchase of Tops Markets was completed to operate all of our stores under one name,” said Frank Curci, chief executive officer, Tops Markets. “This change will allow us to place even more focus on the customer experience.” Tops said it would take about a week to convert each store.
