QUINCY, Mass. — Stop & Shop here said Sunday that its workers in New England had ratified new labor contracts after negotiations that extended into Saturday.

The three-year pacts cover several thousand employees who are members of five different locals of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union.

"Our goal during the negotiations was to reach fair agreements that will allow us to continue to provide good jobs to our associates and serve our customers for many years to come," Faith Weiner, a Stop & Shop spokeswoman, told SN Sunday. "We are pleased to have met this goal with these ratified agreements."

In a posting on the website of one of the locals, UFCW Local 1445, the union said 84% of the workers had voted in favor of the new contract.

Local reports said the new agreements call for full-time workers to "pay slightly more" for health insurance, which had been one of the sticking points of negotiations.

Employees will also receive a one-time payment up to $750, the reports said, in addition to scheduled raises during the next three years.
