Kroger Co. said Thursday its commitment to employee health and wellness has earned it two awards.
The company said it was named by the National Business Group on Health as first-time gold winner for the 2014 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyle, which recognizes workplace well-being programs in the U.S. and globally.
Kroger also said that, for the second consecutive year, it received the platinum-level Fit-Friendly Worksite award from the American Heart Association for various wellness initiatives, including offering employees physical-activity options in the workplace, providing or increasing healthy-eating options and demonstrating measurable outcomes related to workplace wellness.
According to Theresa Monti, VP of total rewards, “Kroger is committed to giving our associates the tools to improve their health in both big and small ways. We’re making great progress in improving our health, and these awards recognize our efforts both individually and as an entire company.
“Our success in becoming a healthier workforce directly improves our personal and work lives, which also benefits our customers.”
