PLEASANTON, Calif. - Now that the holiday shopping season has officially begun, retailers are tying in gift card purchases with grocery discounts.
At Safeway, shoppers who purchase $100 worth of gift cards from Macy’s, Lowes, Sears and dozens of other retailers receive $10 off their next shopping order. The offer is valid through Dec. 6. “Buy gift cards, save on groceries,” Safeway's promotional materials read.
At Bashas', Chandler, Ariz., shoppers who spend $50 to $99 on gift cards from iTunes, Macy’s, Old Navy, Gap, Starbucks and other retailers get a $5 grocery coupon; those who spend $100 to $299, a $15 coupon; and $300 or more, a $50 coupon.
