Walmart said it would extend the Walmart Neighborhood Market name to its smaller-scale Walmart Express stores, saying the two concepts serve similar missions for their shoppers.
The company said all future Express stores would open under the Neighborhood Market name, while the 21 existing Express stores would be renamed Neighborhood Market.
While Neighborhood Market stores average 38,000 square feet and Express stores around 12,000, they carry similar product assortments. Officials said learnings from the Express format revealed their shoppers primarily used the Express concept for fill-in grocery, last-minute meals and prescription refill, which is similar to that of Neighborhood Market shoppers, a spokesman told SN.
The spokesman said the company had not announced other changes to the small format store.
