Fry's to build in downtown Phoenix

Kroger’s Fry’s division on Tuesday announced plans to build what it called the first full-service grocery store in downtown Phoenix.

Plans call to build a 55,000-square-foot Fry’s store as part of a mixed-use development that could include office and residential space, developer Red Development said in a release.

“This just made it a lot easier to move to downtown Phoenix,” Mayor Greg Stanton said. “A new full-service grocery store will be a catalyst for more residential and neighborhood growth downtown for years to come. With Red Development, Fry’s and Kroger, we are gaining trusted brands with a long track record of success in downtown urban markets.”

The developer is aiming to open the grocery store in 2018, reports said.
