ShopRite moves to new site in South Philly

ShopRite on Thursday opened the doors to a relocated store in South Philadelphia, taking over the site of a former Pathmark that closed last year.

The 60,000-square-foot ShopRite of Whitman Plaza, located at 330 Oregon Ave., will replace an older ShopRite about a mile away, which closed Aug. 28. The old and new stores are operated by Colligas Family Markets, members of the Wakefern Food Corp. co-operative, Keasbey, N.J.

“We are honored to be part of this community and serve South Philly neighborhoods with our ShopRite store, and we look forward to continuing our purpose of providing our customers with an exhilarating, pleasurable experience in our new, expanded ShopRite on Oregon Avenue,” Jennifer Colligas-Moyer said in a statement.

The new space was extensively renovated and includes a fresh bake shop with store made special occasion cakes; service meat and seafood departments; prepared foods and catering; and grab-and-go meals such as sandwiches, heat and eat entrees, a hot bar, salad bar, Asian cuisine and sushi, ShopRite said. The store also features a specialty cheese department, an in-store café, and an on-site dietitian available to offer consultations, store tours and meal planning for customers and associates.

The store also offers ShopRite from Home internet shopping, with home delivery and store pick-up options. It employs around 300 workers.

The Whitman Plaza store was one of 12 A&P and Pathmark locations acquired by Wakefern during A&P's bankruptcy auction a year ago.
