QUINCY, Mass. -- Stop & Shop here and Giant-Landover, Md., divisions of Ahold, have selected VeriFone‘s MX870 multimedia customer-facing payment system with signature capture for use in their stores, VeriFone, San Jose, Calif., announced yesterday. The supermarket chains, which have a combined total of 11,000 checkout lanes, have deployed or plan to deploy hundreds of the MX870 systems by year‘s end, said VeriFone. The company plans to install MX870s in all new and remodeled stores as well as to devise a strategy to replace older legacy units over time. “This feature-rich next generation payment solution provides Stop & Shop with a full range of payment capabilities for today, while protecting our investment by providing a modular, future-proof platform,” said Gina Ventre, vice president of operations & technology support for Stop & Shop and Giant-Landover, in a statement. A key feature of the system was its ability to add additional capabilities, such as radio-frequency readers, said VeriFone.
