WASHINGTON -- A final report on environmental sustainability in the CPG and retail industry will be released in May, said Peter Capozucca, principal, Deloitte Consulting, New York, last week at the Grocery Manufacturers Association/Food Products Association‘s Information Systems & Logistics Distribution (IS/LD) Conference in Orlando. GMA/FPA here selected Deloitte last December to handle the sustainability study. The report will describe sustainability initiatives at major retailers, including Ahold, Albertsons, H.E. Butt Grocery, Kroger, Publix, Safeway, Tesco, Whole Foods, Wild Oats, Trader Joe‘s, Wal-Mart Stores and Costco, among others. It will also look at the impact of retailers‘ packaging requirements on manufacturers as well as which manufacturers “do the best job” with sustainability, said Nick Handrinos, principal, Deloitte, who also spoke at the conference. The report will aim to “help manufacturers develop a sustainability strategy,” Handrinos said.
