JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Ferry-Morse Seed Co., Fulton, Ky., began selling seeds via Winn-Dixie Stores here by using a scan-based trading (SBT) program supplied by Prescient Applied Intelligence, Prescient, Westchester, Pa., announced yesterday. Prior to implementing the SBT solution, Ferry-Morse seed products were not sold in Winn-Dixie stores. But when Ferry-Morse offered to do scan based trading with Winn-Dixie — a model where the supplier owns the inventory until it scans at the point-of-sale — the retailer agreed to take on the business. “Scan-based trading provided us with the opportunity to expand our business into a whole new retail outlet,” said John Hoffman, regional sales manager for Ferry-Morse, in a statement. “It took the issue of excess inventory off the table.”
