Whole Foods Market here was among several companies given a Green Power Leadership Award by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Energy and the Center for Resource Solutions for their commitment to advancing the development of the nation's green power market. The retailer, the only Fortune 500 company to offset 100% of its electricity use with wind energy credits, was named a Partner of the Year along with Starbucks, Johnson & Johnson, HSBC-North America and Aspen Skiing Co. Whole Foods and Renewable Choice Energy together were cited for Market Development. The awards were presented at an event Monday in conjunction with the Eleventh National Renewable Energy Marketing Conference in San Francisco. "We applaud this year's winners of EPA's Green Power Leadership Awards," said Bill Wehrum, EPA's acting assistant administrator of Air and Radiation, in a statement. "Their commitment to green power purchasing proves that an organization can make a real environmental difference."
