Bi-Lo Adds Doors to Open Cases

MAULDIN, S.C. — Bi-Lo has installed 432 feet of glass doors on previously open refrigerated cases at three Tennessee stores, one in Cleveland and two in Chattanooga.

Bi-Lo plans to install the black RemiSafe insulated glass doors, from Remis America, Elkhart, Ind., in approximately 35 stores this year, with several more in Tennessee already scheduled.

“[The doors] give us more control over case temperatures, allowing us to save on energy and maintain product integrity,” said Dennis Gibson, director of maintenance and energy services for Bi-Lo, in a statement. “Not only that, our customers have made numerous positive comments about how much warmer and more comfortable our aisles are.”

Unbelievable marketing being allowed by the V.P. of Marketing
by the Director of Maintenance & Energy Services.

If this results in more sales, then, they should both be promoted, big time.

I normally write in whenever I agree & I can praise the innovation & the leadership.

You know, I remember being on a Bank's Advisory Board, & I can remember telling my then president of Frontier Bank, you know Charlie, we do so much marketing to bring new folks to the bank, & then, once here, everything is "no", a kick in the teeth.

Retail is all about every employee being trained on the importance of building customer loyalty, first. Do we carry the items our community consumes. Then, you couple that with quality, service, & attentiveness to the customer.

Cleanliness, customer "store readiness", special items, & most recently, is our store a "destination" store vs. a "stopover" store? Destination being Trader Joe's where you may buy everything to feed your family at home, your office, or your personal or business event. To me 7 Eleven is a stopover store having the basics.

To me maintenance nor energy conservation should never win over "merchandising". We spend so much money & effort on just the right shelf matrix, displaying, lighting, product mix displaying, etc., that maintenance has never entered our marketing priorities. The only one I can remember was the channel type drainage in front of our meat service counters to run the condensation water away from the customer ( & thus, slip & falls ).
