Data Sync Organizations to Merge

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. — GS1 US and GS1 Germany, two of the largest member organizations of the GS1 System that oversees bar-code and other commercial standards, announced they have signed a letter of intent to combine their 1SYNC (GS1 US) and SA2 Worldsync (GS1 Germany) data synchronization subsidiaries.

GS1 US and GS1 Germany plan to complete the transaction in the third quarter of 2012.

1SYNC and SA2 Worldsync together provide product data synchronization services and solutions to more than 15,000 businesses, directly or indirectly, in more than 40 countries. The organizations manage product data for more than 7 million items, allowing many brand owners to share product information with hundreds of trading partners via the GS1 Global Data Synchronization Network.

The two companies’ customers include companies of all sizes, including many organizations across industries such as food retail, consumer packaged goods and food service.

“All 1SYNC and SA2 Worldsync customers should be excited about the joint venture, as the companies have a shared vision and complementary strengths that will benefit the global communities they serve,” said Rodney McMullen, president and chief operating officer of Kroger, who is also chairman of the GS1 US Board of Governors, in a statement.
