Supervalu Cuts IT Staff

MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu here is laying off 85 technology employees as part of a restructuring of its IT department, a spokesman for the company confirmed.

The cuts include 50 staffers at its headquarters here, 20 in Boise, Idaho, and 15 in Utah, according to the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal. The layoffs are effective as of the end of July.

The restructuring, which also involves some people changing responsibilities and some new hires, will impact about 390 total positions.

As previously reported, Supervalu in February unveiled plans to cut 800 corporate positions, and recently said it would reduce its marketing work force by 39 positions. It also cut more than 2,000 store-level jobs in Southern California. Earlier this month the company said it would explore strategic alternatives, including a possible sale of the company.

Corporate bs. Bigwigs cutting jobs people need; next they will cut more payroll out of the stores...all so they can make their millions.

Down the toilet this goes. I don't see how cutting IT jobs and selling off your only 'paid off' corporate office as a sign of progress. Bankruptcy would've been better.
