CBS to Acquire In-Store Video Screen Vendor SignStorey
Sep 7, 2007 6:00 AM
NEW YORK — CBS here said yesterday it will pay $71.5 million in cash to buy SignStorey, Fairfield, Conn., which provides supermarkets with video screens in perimeter departments like produce and deli/bakery that display video programming and advertising. Once the deal closes — which CBS expects will happen during its fourth quarter — SignStorey will be renamed "CBS Outernet." SignStorey currently has digital video displays in more than 1,400 supermarkets across the country, and the company has long-term exclusive deals with retailers like Pathmark Stores and Supervalu. CBS has worked with SignStorey since 2006, when it signed a deal with the company to provide shopping-specific content for its screens. SignStorey often shares stores with PRN, San Francisco, which provides video programming at checkout lanes.
