FMI Touts Upcoming Online Recall Tool

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Food Marketing Institute is developing an online tool to facilitate and standardize industry recalls, Tim Hammonds, president and chief executive officer of FMI, said Tuesday at the FMI Midwinter Executive Conference here. The tool, which is now being tested, will include an online form in which manufacturers can input recall information, plus a database of retail-company coordinators who will receive that information. “It will be available for the industry to use early this year,” Hammonds said. “We think you’ll need a single system that’s easy and fast.” FMI developed this solution with GS-1 and is working closely with the Grocery Manufacturers Association and other industry groups.
