Food Lion, Giant Eagle Receive Energy Star Awards
WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency here recognized Food Lion, Salisbury, N.C., and Giant Eagle, Pittsburgh, Wednesday night with an Energy Star Sustained Excellence 2007 Award for outstanding and continued leadership in protecting the environment through energy efficiency. They were among 26 organizations receiving the award. Food Lion also earned the Sustained Excellence Award in 2004, 2005 and 2006, as well as the Energy Star Partner of the Year Awards in 2002 and 2003. Food Lion is the only supermarket company to earn Energy Star partner awards in six consecutive years, the company said. Giant Eagle also received Energy Star awards in 2004, 2005 and 2006. “Food Lion is dedicated to identifying ways we can protect the environment and conserve energy while meeting business objectives,” said Kyle Mitchell, Food Lion‘s vice president of construction and indirect procurement, in a statement.Subscribe / Renew to Supermarket News
