SALISBURY, N.C. — Food Lion here is prompting customers to sign up for its weekly e-newsletter with a giveaway of a free laptop and a year’s worth of free groceries. Customers are automatically entered by signing up for the “Shoppers’ Companion” weekly email newsletter by Jan. 8, 2008. Those who are already enrolled are also eligible. “The Shoppers’ Companion weekly email is your shortcut to savings,” Food Lion says on its website. To enroll, shoppers enter their loyalty card number and fill out a profile page. They then receive an e-newsletter containing weekly specials, recipes and coupons every Wednesday morning. “As an added bonus, once you’re subscribed, you will be eligible for our weekly gift card giveaways and other exclusive MVP [Card] promotions,” said Food Lion.
