PCI Body Takes Over Standards for PIN Devices
WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- The PCI Security Standards Council here, created last September to administer the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), has agreed to take over administration of the PCI PED (Pin Entry Device) standard. “On Feb. 20, we voted to take PCI PED under the Council‘s leadership,” said Seana Pitt, executive chair, PCI Security Standards Council. “We will evolve that standard going forward.” PCI PED, which covers security standards that PIN pad devices need to follow, was previously managed by Visa, MasterCard and JCB. According to Pete Bartolik, a spokesman for VeriFone, San Jose, Calif., only terminals meeting PCI PED requirements may be purchased by retailers after Dec. 31, 2007. -- Michael GarrySubscribe / Renew to Supermarket News
