RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. — A joint Food Marketing Institute and Grocery Manufacturers Association initiative aimed at improving and bringing consistency to product recalls expects to deploy a uniform industrywide process “sometime over the second half of the year,” said Beverly A. Grant, chief channel officer, US CBD Grocery Channel, Procter & Gamble. Grant spoke yesterday here at a conference session jointly sponsored by the FMI Supply Chain Conference and the GMA Information Systems/Logistics Distribution (IS/LD) Conference. The initiative has so far tested a Web-based recall portal that is being tested again and will be “hopefully unveiled shortly,” said Gary Stibel, chief executive officer, The New England Consulting Group, who also spoke at the session. Grant and Stibel asked for input from retailers and manufacturers on how recalls could be improved.
