A&P Selects Group Presidents
re has selected new presidents for several of its operating groups.
After being involved in day-to-day operations of the Super Fresh group in Florence, N.J., since earlier this year, Michael Bozza resumes regional responsibility for Super Fresh's Pennsylvania, Mid Atlantic and South Central divisions. He reports to Wayne Harris, executive vice president of operations of A&P, based at A&P headquarters here.
David Aston, former president of A&P's Waldbaum's division, Central Islip, N.Y., was named president of the Super Fresh group based in Florence, N.J. He reports to Bozza.
Before joining A&P about two-and-a-half years ago, Aston held various executive positions with Kroger Co., Cincinnati.
David Smithies succeeds Aston as president of Waldbaum's. He was president of A&P's New England group in Springfield, Mass., and has been with the company since 1986. He, too, reports to Harris.
David Hoalt, formerly vice president of store operations of the New England group, was named president, succeeding Smithies. A long-time A&P employee, he reports to Harris.
Shaw's Appoints VP Of Human Resources
EAST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Shaw's Supermarkets here has named Ruth N. Bramson senior vice president of human resources.
She succeeds Jim Scott, vice president of human relations, who has left the company.
Bramson was vice president of human resources at Charles River Laboratories, Cambridge, Mass., a division of Bausch & Lomb. She reports to Phil Francis, president and chief executive officer of Shaw's.
Richard Pires was named to the new title of vice president of labor relations.
Pires was director of labor relations at Shaw's. He has been with the company since 1988, and reports to Bramson.
C&S Names Sales, Service Director
BRATTLEBORO, Vt. -- C&S Wholesale Grocers here has named Marilyn Tillinghast director of chain sales and customer service, a new position.
She manages all customer relationships and services and oversees the account managers and sales service personnel for all major chains. She reports to Larry Newton, senior vice president of C&S.
Tillinghast most recently was vice president of sales and marketing at Bunge Foods, Atlanta, an ingredients supplier. Prior to that, she held various senior management positions with dairy products manufacturer HB Hood, Boston.
Abco Foods Taps Marketing Senior VP
PHOENIX -- Abco Foods here has named Phil Hawkes senior vice president of marketing.
Hawkes was vice president of grocery merchandising. In his new post, he succeeds Les Knox, who left the company.
Hawkes, who has worked in retailing for more than 20 years, joined Abco in 1977. He reports to Edward G. Hill Jr., president.
King Kullen Designates Manager
WESTBURY, N.Y. -- King Kullen Grocery Co. here has named Jennifer Stenger customer relations manager.
Stenger joined the company in 1985 as a cashier. She succeeds Dana Conklin, granddaughter of founder Michael J. Cullen, who is now in charge of King Kullen's Wild by Nature unit.
