PEWAUKEE, Wis. -- Roundy's here said it had record earnings and lower sales for its second quarter and first half.
aid the record performance was due to cost savings from the consolidation of its Columbus and Lima, Ohio, divisions and implementation of systems standardization throughout all operating divisions.
Sales fell 0.8% to $634.1 million for the quarter and 0.1% to $1.252 billion for the half.
The company said it attributed the declines "primarily [to] the closing of some underperforming corporate stores in Ohio and Michigan" and to low inflation, "[which] has hiked consumer expenditures on food purchased outside the home." The company said it will continue to emphasize sales growth at a profit through the balance of the year.
