PHILADELPHIA — A&P on Friday opened its first new store in Pennsylvania in more than 10 years, a 51,000-square-foot Super Fresh location in the Northern Liberties neighborhood here.

“One of our Administration's Greenworks Philadelphia goals is to bring local food within 10 minutes of 75% of our residents," said Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter. "This supermarket, which is on the corner of three neighborhoods, is ideally situated to provide healthy, fresh food options to many Philadelphians who previously lacked this option."

As previously reported, the project was under construction when Montvale, N.J.-based A&P filed for bankruptcy protection in December.
