LOS ANGELES — Yucaipa Cos. here and Garcia Trujillo Holdings have created an investment partnership that will focus on businesses serving Hispanic consumers in the U.S., the companies said.

Yucaipa is headed by supermarket magnate Ron Burkle. Garcia Trujillo is a merchant bank specializing in venture capital to Hispanic-focused businesses. Its founders include Charles Garcia, a current member of the board of directors of Winn-Dixie Stores.

The companies said the new partnership would seek to capture opportunities in the emerging U.S. Hispanic marketplace. More than 50 million Hispanics live in the U.S. today, and by 2050, that number is projected to grow to more than 132 million.
