CHICAGO — A buyer might have emerged for Moo & Oink, the local operator here known for its specialty meat offerings, according to reports.
Creditors have filed a petition to force the four-store chain into bankruptcy, citing $3.3 million in debts, according to a filing with the District Bankruptcy Court in Chicago.
The court has assigned Skokie, Ill.-based Silverman Consulting to take over the chain, an attorney for the creditors, Thomas Angell of Jacobs, Burns, Orlove and Hernandez, told SN. He confirmed that creditors are seeking to recover "more than $3 million" from Moo & Oink, but referred further questions to Silverman, which could be reached for comment.
According to a report in the Chicago Sun-Times, a buyer is interested in Moo & Oik's four locations and its intellectual property. The chain is known for its specialty meat offerings and its focus on the African-American consumer in Chicago.
