CLEVELAND — Charlie Bowlus, who founded the ECRM buying-show company with his son, Mitch, has died. The cause was complications from emergency surgery.

Mitch Bowlus, who recently had been named president of the company, made the announcement internally Thursday. He said details about services would be forthcoming.

Charlie Bowlus co-founded the company, which produces technology and category buying-conferences for the industry, in 1993.

In June, when Mitch Bowlus was named president, the company had said Charlie Bowlus was transitioning to put a greater focus upon software development as well as humanitarian initiatives.
