HARTFORD, Conn. — A pioneering downtown grocery store here has closed for retooling only six months after it opened.

The Market at Hartford 21 — an upscale specialty grocer that became downtown Hartford’s first grocery store when it opened in March — could reopen in a matter of weeks, according to a statement from a lawyer representing its owners.

“We firmly believe in this endeavor and thank the city of Hartford and our customers for their continued support and loyalty,” the company said. “We look forward to providing our customers with the broad selection of delicious products that have been the hallmark of our service to date.”

According to published reports, the owners, former caterers Ryan and Kelleanne Jones, had expressed concerns that the store layout required too much labor. They took over the 8,100-square-foot store with equipment already installed by the developer after a former prospective tenant backed out.
