Kings Super Markets has struck up a partnership with a kosher bakery to supply all its in-store bakeries with an increasing variety of kosher baked goods. It started when Lilly‘s Bakery in the New York City borough of Brooklyn agreed to make babka from a Kings recipe, and Kings has been retailing the 24-ounce babka with success at $7.99. Now, the 26-unit supermarket chain is sourcing a dozen fresh-baked kosher items from Lilly‘s, and more will be added, said Kenneth Downey, Kings‘ bakery sales manager. Rugelach, linzer torte and black-and-white cookies are among the most popular items, direct delivered at least once a week. “As far as I know, we are the only ones in our market areas to have these products, and sales are good,” Downey told SN.
