PIA Merchandising Taps President

ndising Co. here has named Thomas A. Goss president and chief operating officer, a new position.

Goss has responsibility for PIA's grocery and national accounts divisions. He joined PIA from Shasco, the Hayward, Calif.-based manufacturer of Shasta sodas, where he was executive vice president and general manager. He began his career with Procter & Gamble and has held senior management responsibilities with RJR Foods/Del Monte and Faygo Beverages.

Larry M. Dorr has been named executive vice president of corporate operations. In this new position, he guides division operations. He was senior vice president of corporate operations.

Richard J. Tysdal, who was senior vice president of marketing, has been named executive vice president, with responsibilities for corporate marketing and integrated technology systems, a new position.

Arthur Portugal, formerly senior vice president, has been named executive vice president of business development.

Goss, Dorr, Tysdal and Portugal report to Clinton E. Owens, PIA's chairman and chief executive officer.

PIA provides schematic and in-store merchandising services across the country.

Anheuser-Busch Names Busch VP

ST. LOUIS -- Anheuser-Busch here has named August A. Busch 4th vice president of brand management and appointed him to the company's management committee. He succeeds Thomas R. Sharbaugh, who resigned to become vice president of strategic marketing and advertising at Sears, Roebuck, Chicago.

Busch started his career at Anheuser-Busch in 1984 as a foreman and apprentice brewer at its brewery here. He spearheaded the development of the DryBrew method of brewing, which resulted in the creation of Michelob Dry and Bud Dry. He also served as senior brand manager for Bud Dry Draft, and was then director of Budweiser brand marketing. He was responsible for the rollout of Ice Draft from Budweiser, and he helped to develop the brewing method.

As vice president of Budweiser brands since 1992, he directed all advertising and marketing activities for Budweiser, Bud Light and Bud Dry. Busch reports to Patrick T. Stokes, president of Anheuser-Busch.

Anheuser-Busch has also named Robert Lachky, formerly director of Bud Light brand marketing, to director of Budweiser brand marketing; James M. Schumacker, formerly senior brand manager for the Michelob line of beers, to director of Bud Light brand marketing; and Michael J. Owens, formerly director of Budweiser brand marketing, to vice president of ethnic-geographic marketing.

President Is Appointed at Bunzl

ST. LOUIS -- Bunzl Distribution USA here has named Rick Snellings president and chief operating officer. He succeeds Jon Carlson, who retired.

Snellings has been with Bunzl since 1983 and was most recently president of the Western division, its largest and most profitable region. His old post has not been filled due to an internal restructuring. Snellings reports to Paul Lorenzini, chairman.

Bunzl is a $1.4 billion distributor of coarse paper products and disposable paper and plastic packaging. Bunzl Distribution USA provides transcontinental sourcing, warehousing and distribution of disposable paper and plastic products in the U.S. and Australia. Its primary customers include supermarkets, warehouse clubs, fast-food restaurant suppliers, independent local distributors and airlines.

Morris Alper Taps Vice President

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Morris Alper Inc. here has named Mark E. Henney vice president of grocery sales. He succeeds Jack Laurendeau, who was named senior vice president of perishables.

Henney is responsible for all grocery sales and all grocery account managers. Before joining Morris Alper, he was regional sales manager in New England for Campbell Soup Co., Camden, N.J.

Henney reports to Jay Hughes, senior vice president of grocery.

Morris Alper is a food brokerage company operating in the six New England states.
