ST. LOUIS -- Schnuck Markets is capturing the spirit of the Olympics here by promoting through July 10 the 1994 U.S. Olympic Festival with collectible pins, which the chain designed.
This is the first time St. Louis will host the 10-day event, July 1 to 10.
The chain began offering the 45-pin series at its stores Feb. 7. "We're excited about our involvement as an Olympic Festival Grand Patron, and we're also thrilled and honored to have designed the pins and to be offering them for sale in our stores," said Scott Schnuck, the chain's president and chief operating officer.
Each pin features the U.S. Festival 1994 logo, the name of the pin and an icon symbolizing a specific sport.
The Schnuck chain is offering a different pin for two weeks at a time at 59 cents with the purchase of a tie-in product.
After a pin has been introduced, shoppers can purchase it for $1.99 without the qualifying product.
Weekly ads announcing the tie-in products for the 59-cent pin offer, color handouts explaining the continuity and various point-of-purchase materials will support the program. As part of the promotion, Schnuck will make an undisclosed contribution to the event.
