DENTON, Texas — Two Piggly Wiggly stores here are scheduled to close this Saturday, marking the exit of the banner from this state, according to a report in the Denton Record Chronicle.

The stores were owned by Affiliated Foods Southwest, Little Rock, Ark., which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last month.

AFS also shuttered four stores in the Little Rock market last week, and is seeking to sell its remaining corporate locations, Al Miller, an AFS spokesman, told SN on Monday. Locations that are not sold will be shuttered, he said.

Piggly Wiggly, which continues to operate in the Southeast and Upper Midwest through licensing agreements, at one time was headquartered in Lewisville, Texas. Associated Wholesale Grocers, Kansas City, Kan., acquired inventory from AFS and began supplying many of the wholesalers' customers after the bankruptcy filing.
