BOISE, Idaho — Albertsons LLC here said Thursday it plans to close four underperforming stores next month — one in Arizona, one in Louisiana and two in Texas.

According to Christine Wilcox, a chain spokeswoman, "As part of our annual review, we identified locations that have been struggling and have tried to re-position them to compete better, but these four remained unprofitable."

She said the company is working with employees to place them at other Albertsons locations, "though there could be some layoffs, particularly at the store in Casa Grande [Arizona], which is a more remote location."

The other stores set to close on or about Feb. 18 are in Lafayette, La., and Benbrook and Frisco, Texas. Wilcox said the company does not expect additional closings.

After the closings, Albertsons LLC will operate 205 stores in the Southwest and the South.
