GS1 US Developing Portal for New-Item Introductions

GS1 US is developing an industry portal to standardize the new-item introduction process and eliminate the paper forms used by many manufacturers as they introduce new items to retailers, said Bob Noe, chief customer officer, GS1 US, yesterday in a presentation at the U Connect Conference.

ORLANDO, Fla. — GS1 US is developing an industry portal to standardize the new-item introduction process and eliminate the paper forms used by many manufacturers as they introduce new items to retailers, said Bob Noe, chief customer officer, GS1 US, yesterday in a presentation at the U Connect Conference here.

“This would reduce costs for individual companies and the industry,” he said. “It would bridge the gap between where the GDSN [Global Data Synchronization Network] leaves off and where companies’ firewalls start.” Noe said GS1 US is piloting the portal with a small group of firms.
