SUNBURY, Pa. — Weis Markets here is expected to announce today that David Hepfinger will take over as its chief executive officer. In an exclusive interview with SN late last month, Hepfinger pledged to work toward improving store conditions and customer focus at Weis, a $2.3 billion retailer that operates 155 stores in five states. He said his goal is to make the retailer “best-in-class in all the areas in which we compete.”
Hepfinger, 50, began his food retailing career working as a dairy clerk at a Weis-owned Albany Public store as a teenager. He later joined Schenectady, N.Y.-based Price Chopper and for 16 years was a member of its executive committee, most recently in the role of executive vice president of retailing and administration.
