Schnucks goes live with Deli Order Ahead

New service also lets customers order prepared food online

Schnuck Markets has added a new function to its Schnucks Rewards app that enables customers to place deli orders from home.

Called Deli Order Ahead, the service launched Tuesday at 15 stores in Missouri, two in Indiana and one in Illinois.

Besides traditional deli offerings like cold cuts, cheese and salads, shoppers will be able to order meal items at most of the location. Schnucks said 14 of the 18 stores will offer prepared foods via Deli Order Ahead as well as through self-service deli kiosks.

“Deli Order Ahead is a simple and convenient lunch or dinner solution for our busy, on-the-go customers,” Ted Schnuck, vice president of marketing, said in a statement. “This service is designed to offer even more convenience to our customers and reduce their wait time.”

St. Louis-based Schnucks added that, going forward, it will look at expanding the Order Ahead functionality to more stores and service departments.

Deli Order Ahead is available at Schnucks supermarkets in St. Louis (four stores), Arnols, Affton, Crestwood, Webster Groves, Richmond Heights, Des Peres, Ladue, Twin Oaks, Town & Country, St. Charles and Lake Saint Louis, Mo.; Edwardsville, Ill.; and Evansville and Newburgh, Ind. The Richmond Heights, Des Peres, Ladue and Town & Country stores offer only sliced deli meat and cheese through Deli Order Ahead.

Since launching the Schnucks Rewards program and mobile app in August 2018, the grocery chain has continued to expand the app’s features.

Last month, for example, the retailer added shopping lists and a wellness guide. The in-app shopping list organizes the order of customers’ lists according to the layout of their designated store and, once a product is on a list, any available digital coupons are clipped automatically. With the wellness guide, shoppers can view nutritional information and labels highlighting attributes like heart-healthy, gluten-free, high-protein or organic.

Through Schnucks Rewards, members earn 10 points for each dollar spent on qualifying purchases. After collecting 1,000 points ($100 in purchases), shoppers earn $2 off a future purchase. Dollars can be redeemed as they are earned or accumulated to spend in bulk, up to $500. The chain operates 118 stores in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Iowa.
