MONTVALE, N.J. — Top choirs will compete in the ninth annual Pathmark Gospel Choir Competition in New York City tomorrow, Feb. 28.
Pathmark is the title sponsor of the event, which will award $10,000 in prizes in honor of Black History Month. Choirs from churches, organizations, schools, unions and/or corporations will compete for prizes in two divisions.
Competitors in the Youth Division (all members must be 18 and under) will get $1,000 for the first prize; $600, second; and $400, third. Prizes for the Open Division include the $5,000 Grand Prize, $2,000 Second Prize and $1,000 Third Prize. Participating choirs come from Metro New York as well as many other states plus a choir from Quebec.
The event will be held at the World Financial Center Winter Garden, and broadcast on television and radio. General Mills, Kimberly-Clark, ConAgra and Unilever are among the manufacturer sponsors who will give out samples and coupons.
