DALLAS -- Another top executive at troubled wholesaler Fleming Cos. here could be leaving the company.

J.R. Campbell, executive vice president of merchandising and supply and president of the company's retail division, is on medical leave following neurosurgery, according to reports, and may not return. Shane Boyd, a Fleming spokesman, confirmed last week that Campbell has been out on medical leave but declined to speculate on his potential return.

Campbell joined Fleming in January from Wal-Mart and added the role of president of the retail division in June. His duties are being filled by Keith Durham, senior vice president, retail.

Fleming also recently confirmed that William H. Marquard, executive vice president of business development and chief knowledge officer, resigned but will remain at the company during a three-month transitional period.

Fleming declined to explain the reasons for Marquard's departure.

Also, Tom Zatina, senior vice president of operations, left the company two weeks ago.

Responding to reports that several people had been laid off from its Dallas headquarters, Boyd said the company "made some organizational changes," but he declined to provide details about the number of positions eliminated.

"It was nothing out of the ordinary course of business," he said. "We've had these organizational changes before, and this was on the magnitude of those."
