Schultz Names Treasurer, VP

ltz Sav-O Stores here has announced two executive appointments. Michael R. Houser has been named executive vice president marketing of and merchandising and Armand C. Go has been named treasurer and chief accounting officer.

Houser has worked at the company since 1979 in various capacities, most recently as vice president of merchandising. Previously, he worked in product sales and merchandising with Nabisco Foods.

In this new position Houser reports to James H. Dickelman, board chairman, president and chief executive officer of the company. Houser is responsible for all food sales and merchandising functions, as well as all marketing and advertising responsibilities for Piggly Wiggly supermarkets.

Houser is currently a member of the company's executive committee and board of directors, as well as a board member of Summerfest, Milwaukee World Festival and the Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer Fund.

Go takes on some of the responsibilities of John Dahly, executive vice president and chief financial officer of the company. Go began working at Schultz in 1992 as manager of taxes and financial reporting before being named assistant controller and then controller in 1994. He reports directly to Dahly.

Supervalu Appoints Herring

MINNEAPOLIS -- J. Andrew Herring here has been named vice president of corporate development and external relations for Supervalu here.

In this position Herring is responsible for mergers and acquisitions, corporate communications, industry and government relations and the company's foundation. He reports to Michael Wright, Supervalu's chief executive officer and chairman.

This new position consolidates responsibilities from a number of different positions that no longer exist due to a restructuring within the company.

Herring has worked with mergers and acquisitions for 14 years, most recently as a partner with the Minneapolis-based law firm of Dorsey & Whitney. Prior to 1987, Herring was an associate with the law firm of Andrews & Kurth in Houston, Texas.

Herring graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. He also has a J.D. degree from the University of Houston Law School.

Supervalu is the nation's 13th largest food retailer and the leading food distributor, supplying 4,300 retail stores in 48 states.
