Lift a fork
In December, Woodland, Calif.-based Nugget Markets soft launched a new brand called Fork Lift by Nugget Markets that aims to offer warehouse prices — typically 10% lower than conventional stores — while still providing the same customer service and high-quality, healthy products the retailer is known for.
Hybrid concept
Located in Cameron Park, Calif., the store was converted from a Food 4 Less that was owned by Nugget Markets. The retailer said Fork Lift is a hybrid of the two concepts.
Something for everyone
Fork Lift carries a mix of local, organic and conventional produce.
Wheel it in
The store stocks more than 200 types of cheeses. Fork Lift buys wheels of cheeses and cuts and wraps wedges in-house.
Made fresh daily
The deli department includes a sandwich counter, self-serve grain and soup bar, and more than 50 prepared food entrees, including vegetarian options.
Sweets and treats
Nugget’s bakers supply Fork Lift with fresh bread, cookies and cakes.
Just label it
Fork Lift includes a sizeable bulk department.
Throughout the store, shelf tags call out products based on a variety of attributes, including Local, CA Grown, Non GMO, Fair Trade and Vegan.
Varied selection
The store has over 20,000 natural, organic and specialty items.
Cellar gems
Wine stewards are on hand to answer questions about wine as well as beer and spirits. Fork Lift also claims to have the largest selection of micro-brews east of Sacramento.
