Eighteen Hy-Vee cake designers competed in the retailer’s ninth annual contest, which took place in West Des Moines, Iowa, on April 11.
Rochester, Minn.-based Janine Schwendinger, seen here with guest judge Joshua John Russell, received first prize from the judges.
Schwendinger’s cakes also earned her the Designers’ Choice Award from her fellow designers.
Linda Schneider of Ankeny, Iowa, won second place in the competition.
