Extending its reach in a key market, Target is set to offer on-demand grocery delivery through Shipt across the Windy City.
Starting June 7, more than 55,000 groceries, household essentials, home, electronics, toys and other products will be available for same-day delivery via Shipt from Target stores in the Chicago metropolitan area.
The companies said Shipt delivery made its debut in Illinois with select retailers in July 2017. The expansion gives more than 3.5 million households in the area access to same-day delivery of products from their local Target store.
At the end of May, Target and Shipt had unveiled plans to roll out online grocery delivery across the Midwest, including Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio and Wisconsin.
“Families across the Midwest have already embraced the convenience of Shipt delivery,” according to Harley Butler, chief marketing officer for Shipt, a Birmingham, Ala.-based subsidiary of Target. “This regional expansion underscores our continued mission to evolve the shopping experience through personalization, increased product offerings and varied retailer options.”
Customers can browse, search and shop the in-store assortment of products in the Shipt marketplace online and within its app. They also can note preferences, pick a one-hour delivery window and pay for their order. The Shipt team of personal shoppers then handles selecting, bagging and delivery of the items. With an annual membership, shoppers get free, unlimited delivery on orders of more than $35.
For the service expansion, Shipt is offering new members who sign up before the launch in their market area an annual membership for $49, a $50 savings from the regular $99, along with a $15 credit to spend on a Target order of $100 or more.
