Publix Expands Data Warehouse

Publix Super Markets here has expanded data warehouse from Teradata, a division of NCR Dayton, Ohio, bringing it out of the traditional decision-support realm and into supporting day-to-day tactical operations decisions, Teradata announced yesterday.

LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix Super Markets here has expanded its data warehouse from Teradata, a division of NCR Dayton, Ohio, bringing it out of the traditional decision-support realm and into supporting day-to-day tactical operations decisions, Teradata announced yesterday. The expansion, which includes new 5500 servers, data-mining software and data warehouse support technology, will provide detailed historical and current information. Armed with this information, associates will be able to optimize their business decisions, in particular supply chain management and loss prevention technologies, said Teradata. “Publix is well on its way to having one of the premier data warehouses in the supermarket industry with actionable and timely information for business users, which is critical in the highly competitive supermarket business,” said Rob Berman, vice president of retail solutions for Teradata, in a statement.
